Standing on a rocky spur above the Doubs river, the château de Torpes occupies a fortified site dating back to the 13th century, once tied to the lords of Montferrand. Its present appearance owes much to the second half of the 18th century, when architect Joseph Galezot reshaped the old medieval stronghold. Older traces remain nonetheless, including a kitchen and the base of corner towers from the 13th century, alongside the classical main building and its formal garden with water features. The estate remains privately owned.
