To make a day of it

Château de Vérigny stands in Mittainvilliers-Vérigny (Eure-et-Loir), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 16th century, 17th century, 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

The château de Vérigny stands in Mittainvilliers-Vérigny, in the Eure-et-Loir department, not far from Chartres. The classical main building, flanked by two projecting pavilions, dates from the mid 18th century, though the real interest of the site lies in its farm buildings, which are considerably older, from the 16th and 17th centuries, arranged around two enclosed courtyards. Notable features include a tithe barn with diamond-patterned brick walls, a circular dovecote whose pigeon holes were set in staggered rows, and a tower. Inside the château, the main salon retains carved panelling decorated with grisaille scenes of children at play.
