To make a day of it

Château de Ternand stands in Ternand (Rhône), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The ruins of the château de Ternand stand on a promontory overlooking the Azergues valley, northwest of Lyon. Fortified around 1210 on the initiative of the Archbishop of Lyon Renaud de Forez, the stronghold was destroyed in 1562 by Huguenot troops under the baron des Adrets. What remains today is a stretch of the old wall walk and part of the keep, now 17 metres high against an original 31. The grounds have been turned into a public garden with views over the Tarare hills.
