Achevé vers 1786, le château de Saulières, construit dans le style néo-classique de la fin du 18e siècle et représentatif de l'esprit néo-palladien, a été réaménagé dans les années 1830 - 1840 ; il a conservé son décor intérieur (boiseries, parquets, tissus d'indienne dans le grand salon, panoramiques dans la salle de billard, ...). C'est une demeure à la mode parisienne dans la campagne nivernaise. Le domaine est conçu en terrasses successives depuis les écuries jusqu'au théâtre de verdure.
