In Moulins-Engilbert, in the Nièvre department, the ruins of the Old Castle form a long fortified structure nearly 150 metres long, divided between an upper and a lower courtyard. The remains of the keep, whose base dates back to the late 10th century, bear witness to a history spanning the Middle Ages, including the 1290 marriage of Louis I of Nevers celebrated on site. Shaped into a romantic park in the 19th century by a local notary, the grounds now hold a public garden open to visitors, built around an old pond and century-old trees, among them a Corsican pine planted at the time.
