To make a day of it

Château de Ménessaire stands in Ménessaire (Côte-d'Or), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 17th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Set within the Morvan regional nature park, the Château de Ménessaire displays roofs of glazed Burgundian tile above the remains of a medieval fortified house. Destroyed by fire in the 16th century, the current building results from two phases of reconstruction carried out during the 17th century, in a style drawing on Italian Renaissance influences. One room preserves a notable painted ceiling from the mid 17th century, uncovered by chance during renovation work in 1991, beneath a later decorative scheme.
