In the hamlet of Réglois, in the commune of Alligny-en-Morvan in the Nièvre, stands a château built in the early seventeenth century on the site of an old Roman road. Constructed between 1602 and 1609 for Claude de Bouillard, it replaced an earlier stronghold in the nearby hamlet of Marnay, destroyed by the Écorcheurs in 1438, whose stones were reused for the new building. A Latin motto carved above the tower's doorway recalls the defensive spirit of the place. The estate remains a private property today, passed down through several Burgundian families over the centuries.
