Originally fortified during the wars of religion and later made comfortable in the eighteenth century, it was completely reimagined at the turn of the twentieth century in the neo-Gothic style by architect du Barry de la Salle. The grounds were designed by landscape architect Edouard André, with an avenue leading through the park to the courtyard.
