What the French Ministry of Culture records

Jacques Bruet, seigneur protestant de Lagarde fut gouverneur de Tonneins de 1604 à 1622. En 1624, il obtint de son suzerain l'autorisation de faire construire un château dans le village de Lagarde. Le château, entouré d'un fossé, se compose d'un corps de logis en simple profondeur flanqué de deux pavillons. Des bâtiments de communs délimitent avec le logis une cour intérieure close de murs et accessible par un petit corps de passage. L'ensemble est alimenté en eau par une fontaine qui porte la date de 1630. Le château a été restauré au milieu du 19e siècle.
