Perched on a volcanic outcrop above the village and the Rhône valley, the ruins of Rochemaure castle include a twelfth-century keep some forty metres high, combining a square base with a pentagonal upper section built of dark basalt and pale limestone corner-stones. The remains of the thirteenth-century lord's residence and the ramparts running down to the Guast tower complete the site, which has belonged to the local commune since 1974 after passing through several noble families, from the Adhémar de Monteil to the Massin de Miraval. Visitors reach it on foot from the old La Fare quarter, along the Chemin du Château.
