What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le château occupe une position stratégique sur un éperon au débouché de la Corrèze, sur la plaine de Brive-la-Gaillarde. Traces d'occupation gallo-romaine. Il subsiste tout un ensemble de bâtiments du 13e siècle (tour carrée de l'oratoire, bâtiment central renfermant la citerne et la tour carrée d'escalier en vis, vestiges de la chapelle...). Après un incendie en 1793, le château est relevé au 19e siècle avec intégration des bâtiments subsistants ; un grand corps de bâtiment est édifié dans le style troubadour. Réfection des ailes sud et est après un incendie en 1984.
