What the French Ministry of Culture records

Cornil était, au Moyen-Age, une petite place de guerre. Il y avait au moins deux châteaux, l'un qui se trouvait près du bourg, et l'autre dont il subsiste une tour près de l'église. Ils furent tous deux marqués par les sièges au temps de la Ligue. Sur la hauteur se dressent deux bâtiments carrés, contigus, le plus élevé possédant cinq étages. Une tourelle contre le donjon contenait autrefois l'escalier. Tout l'édifice est garni de mâchicoulis dont les consoles allongées sont divisées en trois ou quatre retraites.
