To make a day of it

Château de Neuvic stands in Neuvic (Dordogne), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: first half of the 16th century, 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Built between 1520 and 1530, the château de Neuvic exemplifies the Perigord style of the early Renaissance. Positioned on a terrace overlooking the river, it comprises a main building and a wing at right angles, connected by a pavilion housing the staircase. Despite some Renaissance ornamental details, the structure remains thoroughly Gothic in character: corner towers with corbelling, a machicolated covered walkway, and windows with mullions typical of the fifteenth century. Eighteenth-century modifications added a chapel and a polygonal salon.
