Ancienne résidence des évêques de Bayeux dès la fin du 11e siècle, le château de Neuilly est implanté sur un site stratégique cumulant intérêt économique et rôle défensif. Forteresse à l'origine, résidence épiscopale aux 12e et 13e siècles, occupée au début du 15e siècle par les troupes anglaises, le château a conservé des éléments architecturaux datant de l'époque romane et du début de l'ère gothique : grande croisée à lancette et arcades d'une ancienne tour du logis, baies gothiques de la chapelle. La grange a également conservé ses dispositions du 14e siècle, avec ses grandes arcades de la façade. D'autres vestiges affleurent au sol : anciennes tours, courtines, galets de la haute cour, etc. Le site constitue une réserve archéologique de grande valeur pour l'architecture civile médiévale.
