To make a day of it
Château de la Gonnivière stands in Carentan-les-Marais (Manche), in the Normandie region of France. No visits are on record for this building.
Located in the former commune of Les Veys, now part of Carentan-les-Marais, the château de la Gonnivière is a manor house built in 1723 for Julien de la Gonnivière, a royal councillor. Its rectangular main building shows two contrasting faces: an eastern front, long covered by a cement render applied after wartime damage in 1944, and a more elaborate western front, with a double staircase, a loggia and pilasters topped by Ionic capitals. A turret housing a spiral staircase and an imperial-style roof pierced by an oval dormer also mark the building's successive alterations.
