What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le château est mentionné dans un diplôme de Charles le Chauve de 852. L'édifice fut en grande partie reconstruit au 15e siècle puis endommagé pendant les guerres de Religion. Au 17e siècle, des travaux de décoration intérieure furent entrepris (cheminées et plafonds peints). Au 19e siècle, la toiture fut refaite. Un escalier en vis dans une tourelle hexagonale, sur la façade ouest, dessert les quatre étages. Des fenêtres à meneaux et des meurtrières ont été conservées. Toutes les dépendances et les jardins ont disparu, de même que les remparts. Le château se présente comme deux quadrilatères accolés dans le sens de la longueur et dont l'un est partiellement prolongé en appenti au sud. L'implantation au sol semble être celle de l'édifice roman, à l'exception de la partie sud en appenti. Une petite porte en plein cintre, murée, sur la façade nord et la moitié inférieure du mur sud pourraient avoir appartenu à ce premier édifice.
