To make a day of it

Château de Mondoubleau stands in Mondoubleau (Loir-et-Cher), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument. No visits are on record for this building.

At Mondoubleau, a leaning keep still stands above the plateau bordering the Grenne river, a remnant of a stronghold founded around the year 1000 by Hugues Doubleau. Of the quadrangular enclosure that once stretched nearly 150 metres on each side and counted twelve towers, seven can still be made out today, along with the mound and the ruins of the keep that partly collapsed in the 19th century. The site reflects eight centuries of passing between noble families, from the lords of Châteaudun to the counts of Vendôme, before the slow abandonment that left it in ruins.
