To make a day of it

Château de Massuguiès stands in Le Masnau-Massuguiès (Tarn), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: second half of the 14th century, first half of the 17th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Perched at 700 metres in the Lacaune mountains, the Château de Massuguiès overlooks the gorges of the Dadou river, standing as much as a mountain landmark as a fortified residence. Its square towers and quadrangular layout go back to the late Middle Ages, while the round towers, the three ranges of buildings and the interior decoration date from the 17th century rebuilding carried out by Jean Lacger. Visitors can see beamed ceilings, a stone staircase, a music themed stucco room and a chamber with wall paintings made up of eight allegorical scenes, from a hunting party to a rural banquet and a view of the Tuileries.
