In Coupiac, in southern Aveyron, stands a fortified residence whose origins go back to the Middle Ages, with a charter mentioning a « castellum » as early as around the year 800. Built mostly in the 15th century by the Panat family, the building can now be toured room by room, with illustrated panels explaining daily life in past centuries. Visitors can spot a rare rotating gun loop, a polylobed oculus and old dungeons, along with a rural wood museum set up on an upper floor.
