The Château de Maisonseule stands at Saint-Basile, in the Ardèche region, above the Doux valley. Its 13th-century keep, known as the donjon de Saint Louis, has kept its four rebuilt turrets and a wall-walk resting on stone corbels. The wings added in the 14th and 16th centuries, then reworked in 1624, feature a staircase, mullioned windows and beams painted with rosettes and fleurs-de-lis. Surrounded by dry moats, the building has passed through several uses, from a lord's residence to a school and later a holiday camp.
