To make a day of it

Château de Lavercantière stands in Lavercantière (Lot), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 17th century, 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

The Château de Lavercantière stands on land held since the 10th century by the Gourdon family, before passing in 1528 to the Lagrange-Gourdon line, who kept it until the Revolution. The building seen today dates mainly from the 17th century, rebuilt on the foundations of a medieval castle by Guyon de Lagrange-Gourdon, who in 1659 commissioned a mason from Rampoux to build the double-flight interior staircase. The original plan, shaped like a double T, was never completed and was reduced to a single wing, with the western wing only added in the 18th century. Outbuildings that once surrounded the courtyard, still shown on an 1810 map, now survive only as ruins.
