What the French Ministry of Culture records

Lafox fut primitivement un poste de douaniers qui surveillait un péage important. Le château fut pris et repris pendant les guerres de Cent ans. Lafox atteint son apogée au 15e siècle. L'édifice fut agrandi, le corps de logis et les courtines datent de cette époque. Au 16e siècle, l'édifice fut mis au goût du jour, percé de baies Renaissance et orné d'un perron. Après les troubles de la Fronde, le château fut restauré vers 1615. Le donjon carré est la partie la plus ancienne du château. Il se trouvait à l'origine sur une motte. A une époque indéterminée, une terrasse fut construite autour de la base, reposant sur une voûte de briques en berceau.
