What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le château de la Planche était à l'origine une petite maison forte avec tour d'escalier, construite au 15e siècle. La seigneurie était détenue par la famille de Fugy. A la fin du 16e siècle, Jean de Fugy, commandant des Ligueurs, tient garnison au château et garde aussi le château-prieuré de Grazac. Au cours de ces luttes, la Planche est sacagé. Aux 17e et 18e siècles, les sires de Fugy administrent les biens du prieuré et en obtiennent des baux à vie . Au 17e siècle, le logis est agrandi par l'ajout d'une aile dans le prolongement est. Les percements du château sont unifiés, l'escalier en vis de la tour est démoli et un escalier à mur noyau est construit dans la nouvelle aile. En 1815, la propriété passe par alliance aux Odde du Villard. Marcel Odde du Villard (1789-1860), juge au tribunal du Puy, est passionné de botanique et effectue des recherches sur la flore du Velay. Il aménage devant le château un parc paysager qui lui sert de terrain d'étude. Au 19e siècle, la maison est encore agrandie par la construction de deux corps de bâtiment en retour à l'est et l'écurie, qui a brûlé, est reconstruite en 1825.
