To make a day of it

Château de La Boulaize stands in Montaigu-le-Blin (Allier), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Château de La Boulaize stands at the edge of the village square of Montaigu-le-Blin, facing the ruins of the old fortress on the hill above. Built in an 18th century style, it shows an L-shaped layout with an outdoor horseshoe staircase leading to the main floor, beneath Mansard-style slate roofs pierced by dormer windows. Linked since the 15th century to the de la Boulaize family and later passed by marriage to the Delaire family, the property is now used mainly for private events rather than organised heritage visits.

What to know

  • The château can be seen from the village square, right by the road.
  • No verified information on visiting hours or admission fees is available.
  • The property today is mainly used as a wedding and reception venue, including its renovated former stables.
  • The ruins of the old Montaigu fortress, listed as a historic monument, stand on the nearby hill and can be seen from around the château.
