The keep occupies the western corner, where a wooden bridge once crossed the moat under the protection of a drawbridge. Dating from the 15th century, it was commissioned by Guillaume de Varye, a close associate of the merchant Jacques Cœur, and completed by his widow after his death. Visitors often note the resemblance between its main tower and that of the Château Frontenac in Quebec.
