The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 15th century, fourth quarter of the 16th century, 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

In the hamlet of Fontaine, in the commune of Fontaine-Étoupefour, the remains of this Norman castle reflect several centuries of successive building campaigns. Visitors can see a 15th century gatehouse, a Renaissance residence dated 1583 that was partly burned down and later fell into ruin, and outbuildings from the 18th century. The whole site, surrounded by moats and an old water system, stands on an island and is visited as a partly ruined estate.
