The château de Digoine stands between a pond and a stream in the Saône-et-Loire countryside, screened by woodland from outside view as a private estate. Two L-shaped wings bristling with square, round and polygonal towers form an eclectic ensemble, including a troubadour-style watchtower added during nineteenth-century alterations. A date carved into a kitchen fireplace, 1359, points to its medieval origins, though most of its present appearance comes from far later building campaigns.
