To make a day of it

Château de Diedendorf stands in Diedendorf (Bas-Rhin), in the Grand Est region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 16th century, 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Built from 1570 for Jean Streiff de Lauenstein, bailiff of the count of Sarrewerden, the Diedendorf castle stands in the Bas-Rhin region with its rectangular main building, two wings and corner towers. Its chief interest lies in the painted decoration, of Rhenish tradition and rare in Alsace, with friezes, floral motifs and caryatids still visible on the walls. Wood panelling and fireplaces from the 18th century, brought in from buildings in Strasbourg and Phalsbourg, complete the interior.
