To make a day of it

Château de Courances stands in Courances (Essonne), in the Île-de-France region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 17th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Courances castle stands at the edge of the Fontainebleau forest, in the Essonne department, surrounded by an 86 hectare park laced with canals and water mirrors. Built in the 17th century and later reworked in the Louis XIII style at the end of the 19th century, it keeps a brick and stone structure ringed by moats. Visitors come mainly for the gardens, considered among the finest near Paris, with their long water vistas and the Arethusa fountain. The grounds have been used as a filming location for several productions, including The Iron Mask and Le Sens de la fête.
