To make a day of it

Château de Montlhéry stands in Montlhéry (Essonne), in the Île-de-France region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 10th century, 11th century, 13th century, 14th century). Adult admission costs 3 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Perched on a hill overlooking the Orge valley, the keep of Montlhéry is what remains of a fortress built at the end of the 10th century by the local lords. The site witnessed major medieval conflicts, from the English siege to the Battle of Montlhéry in 1465, before being largely demolished on royal order at the end of the 16th century. Today only the keep and a few remnants of the curtain walls survive, restored in the 19th century by the architect Henri Labrouste.
