Château de Dampierre stands in Dampierre-en-Yvelines (Yvelines), in the Île-de-France region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 17th century). Adult admission costs 10 EUR. Its opening hours and prices were verified at the source on August 4, 2026.
Set in the Chevreuse valley, Dampierre castle stands on the site of a medieval manor, remodelled during the Renaissance and then rebuilt in the late 17th century by Jules Hardouin-Mansart for the Duke of Chevreuse, Colbert's son-in-law. Its facades combine ochre render, brick and cut stone in a banded pattern reminiscent of the Loire valley houses, while the park laid out by Le Nôtre unfolds around a large ornamental pond. The estate belonged to the d'Albert de Luynes family for nearly three and a half centuries before passing to new owners in 2018, and has since undergone extensive restoration work. Visitors can currently walk through the listed grounds.
