In the Chevreuse valley, some thirty kilometres south of Paris, the château de Breteuil stands on land where a residence was built in the late 16th century, later shaped over generations by the same family since the early 18th century. Its rooms tell the story of the estate through wax figures from the Musée Grévin and automatons based on Perrault's fairy tales. The house is surrounded by 75 hectares of listed gardens, combining French-style parterres with more informal English-style grounds.
