Château de Dourdan stands in Dourdan (Essonne), in the Île-de-France region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 13th century). Adult admission costs 5 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
In Dourdan, in the Orge valley, stands a fortress built between 1220 and 1222 on the orders of Philip Augustus, the last military project of his reign. Its square layout, flanking towers and freestanding keep are typical of the Philippian style of fortification, comparable to the medieval Louvre. Over later centuries the site served as a royal residence, a state prison and a military depot before the town acquired it in 1961.
