What the French Ministry of Culture records
Certains éléments de ce château ont sans doute contribué à la construction romanesque du domaine perdu du roman d'Alain-Fournier "Le Grand Meaulnes". Siège d'un ancien fief, le château a été construit au 18e siècle. De plan rectangulaire, il se compose de trois corps de bâtiment en U. Le corps principal était flanqué, sur son élévation occidentale, de deux pavillons en décrochement. Entre 1835 et 1863, un toit brisé en ardoises a remplacé une toiture à deux versants en tuiles. Après 1863, un pavillon supplémentaire a été accolé à l'extrémité sud de l'édifice. La chapelle a sans doute été élevée à cette époque, et les communs remaniés. Plusieurs érudits ont situé en ce lieu la "Fête Etrange" du "Grand Meaulnes". La famille de Fadate avait pour tradition d'y organiser une Fête des enfants.
