Château de Chalay stands in Montoire-sur-le-Loir (Loir-et-Cher), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. What the French Ministry of Culture records

L'édifice présente trois grandes périodes de construction. L'ensemble des années 1535-1545 comprend les tours et leurs travées avec les pilastres superposés caractéristiques de la première Renaissance ; l'escalier rampe sur rampe. Des années 1750-1770 datent l'aile du Vieux Chalay, l'aménagement des pièces intérieures et l'agrandissement de la façade sud. Enfin, le 19e siècle a repris la façade sud, l'enveloppe du pavillon est, la façade plaquée sur l'aile du Vieux Chalay, la modification du portail, l'édification de la chapelle, la création de l'orangerie et l'aménagement du parc. Chalay est conforme à la tradition locale et au type de manoir dérivant de ceux du roi René. Avec l'introduction de son pavillon étroit réservé à l'escalier à rampes droites, le château s'est affirmé comme un exemple novateur dans les années 1530-1540 en matière d'architecture et dans le domaine de la sculpture, dans cette partie du Vendômois.
