Le château fut édifié au 14ème siècle ou 15ème siècle sur un plan quadrangulaire délimité par une courtine reliant un logis au sud flanqué de quatre tours d'angle et d'un avant-corps central, un « donjon » circulaire au nord-ouest et une autre tour circulaire au nord-est. Des écuries et une chapelle complétèrent le domaine à l'époque classique. A la fin du 19ème siècle, une grande campagne de restauration et d'agrandissement fut entreprise: nouveau corps de bâtiment à l'ouest, aménagement d'une terrasse, édification de nouveaux bâtiments de communs à l'arrière des écuries. Les intérieurs du château et de la chapelle furent dotés de nouveaux décors d'une grande richesse (peintures au pochoir, papiers peints).
