Château de Castelfranc stands in Montredon-Labessonnié (Tarn), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: first quarter of the 16th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.
In Montredon-Labessonnié, in the Tarn department, the château de Castelfranc retains an unusual belvedere from the early 17th century, the sole remnant of the residence once owned by Guillaume de Nautonier, geographer to King Henri IV, who set up an astronomical observatory there, said to be among the oldest in France. The present main building, laid out in an L-shape with an orangery and a chapel, results from a 19th-century rebuilding carried out by the chevalier de Solages, who reused carved stonework taken from buildings in Toulouse. The site is best appreciated from the esplanade, for the silhouette of the observation tower and its overhanging timber gallery.
