L'édifice se situe à l'emplacement d'un château plus ancien, construit au 16e siècle ou avant, comme en témoignent peut-être les caves dont l'une possède une voûte sur croisées d'ogives. Il a été réaménagé au 18e siècle en résidence de campagne, avant d'être complètement remis au goût du jour dans les années 1850. Le domaine a été marqué par Marie Madeleine de la Vieuville, née à Paris en 1693, devenue par mariage comtesse de Parabère. Veuve en 1716, elle devient la maîtresse de Philippe d'Orléans jusqu'en 1721. Elle y donna des fêtes et des chasses somptueuses.
