In Bonnelles, in the Yvelines department, the present château dates from the mid nineteenth century and stands on a site occupied by earlier buildings since the late Middle Ages. Built for the duke of Uzès in a style combining Renaissance and Louis XIII references, it combines brick, stone and ochre millstone. It owes much of its renown to the duchess of Uzès, born Mortemart, who made it her favourite residence and a noted centre of hunting with hounds in the late nineteenth century.
