Ce château illustre parfaitement l'essor architectural que connut la Sologne dans la seconde moitié du 19e siècle, après son désenclavement et le plan de régénération voulus par Napoléon III. Conçu par les architectes parisiens Clément et Louis Parent pour une famille de l'aristocratie orléanaise. Il fut édifié de 1875 à 1882 et servait de rendez-vous de chasse à courre. Sa destination mondaine est particulièrement marquée par l'importance des espaces de réception. Le style architectural s'inspire de la Renaissance du Val de Loire.
