Château d'Yèvre-le-Châtel stands in Yèvre-la-Ville (Loiret), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: first quarter of the 13th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Standing on a break in the Beauce plateau east of Pithiviers, the ruins of Yèvre-le-Châtel castle still form a diamond shape flanked by four round towers. Built around 1200 on the orders of Philip Augustus using military techniques brought back from the Crusades, it was one of the few strongholds north of the Loire to resist the English and Burgundians during the Hundred Years' War. A wooden staircase leads up to the upper courtyard, from where a walkway along the walls opens onto views over the Beauce, the Gâtinais, and the edges of the Orléans forest.
