Standing on the banks of the Loire between Orléans and Blois, the château de Beaugency occupies a fortified site dating back to the 11th century. The Romanesque manor house, built to control access to the bridge over the river, was later turned into a Renaissance residence by Jean Dunois and then Jean d'Orléans-Longueville. Its courtyard, dominated by a square Romanesque keep and bordered by the abbey church, now houses a permanent exhibition and evening light installations.
