At the edge of the Orléans forest, in Chilleurs-aux-Bois, this early 16th century château keeps the layout of a transitional stronghold, trapezoid enclosure, water filled moats, round towers at each corner, while already opening onto Renaissance living. It was built by Lancelot I du Lac, whose family held the estate for more than two centuries before the Revolution and the two world wars left their mark on the buildings. Visitors today find a main house flanked by wings, a vaulted chapel, reception rooms with 18th century panelling, and gardens restored around the pond and canals.
