What the French Ministry of Culture records

Edifice médiéval de plan trapézoïdal flanqué de quatre tours, qui présente deux périodes de construction, le Moyen Age et le 16e siècle. Au cours du 16e siècle, il fut réaménagé puis définitivement ruiné. L'édifice fut vendu comme bien national à la Révolution. L'absence de déblais semble indiquer qu'il fut utilisé comme carrière de pierres. Des communs avoisinants et des fortifications extérieures ne subsiste que la ligne d'arasement des fondations. Important pour l'histoire médiévale du pays basque. Notoriété de la famille de Belzunce (François de Belzunce était évêque de Marseille au début du 18e siècle).
