What the French Ministry of Culture records

Construit au XIIe siècle, le château de Bazoches est acheté en 1673 par Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban. Ce dernier s’établit avec sa famille dans le château et fit d’importantes transformations afin d’installer des logements et des ateliers pour les ingénieurs militaires qui y travaillaient sous ses ordres. Le château devint une sorte de garnison aménagée en bureaux pour les besoins des programmes de fortifications du royaume.
