What the French Ministry of Culture records

Ce château, probablement édifié à la fin du 12ème siècle, est un important ensemble fortifié médiéval, transformé au 16e siècle. Flanqué de tours, l’édifice adopte le plan polygonal de l’enceinte médiévale. Le logis principal a été construit vers 1580. La façade sur cour présente une organisation simple mais soignée, sur deux niveaux, autour d’un axe central constitué par l’entrée. De part et d’autre, des ornements sculptés rehaussent les encadrements de portes et de fenêtres à meneaux surmontées de frontons triangulaires ou cintrés. Les dispositions intérieures du logis ont été préservées avec, notamment, des plafonds à la française, un escalier rampe sur rampe ainsi que de grandes cheminées monumentales dotées d’un riche décor ornemental sculpté caractéristique de la Renaissance.
