Escalup Castle stands in Lamontjoie, in the Lot-et-Garonne department, as a surviving example of medieval Gascon fortified houses. Built by the family whose name it bears, it combines a main residential block with a rectangular tower, once protected by a moat and a crenellated roofline. The lower floors, pierced with narrow slits, were used for storage, while the upper levels, lit by wide windows, held the living quarters. Long left roofless after its collapse, the building is currently undergoing restoration.
