What the French Ministry of Culture records
Mentionnés dès le 12e siècle, les seigneurs d'Aren possèdent le château dont un acte de 1335 confirme l'existence. La demeure est acquise vers 1393 par un officier de Gaston Phoebus. Au 15e siècle, l'aile sud est édifiée ou fortement transformée, et ornée de fresques, entre 1434 et 1441. L'aspect actuel du bâtiment date de la première moitié du 17e siècle : construction ou reconstruction de l'aile ouest et des dépendances ouest, modifications de l'aile sud.
