To make a day of it

Château d'Ardenne stands in Moulidars (Charente), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 12th century, 16th century, 17th century, 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Overlooking the Charente valley in the commune of Moulidars, the château d'Ardenne combines two architectural faces built centuries apart. To the north, two towers flanking a main building retain the look of a fortified medieval manor, with the west tower dating back to shortly after 1117. To the south, a classical 17th-century façade opens onto a terrace lined with a stone balustrade, the result of alterations carried out right up to the eve of the French Revolution.
