To make a day of it

Château d'Allinges-Vieux stands in Allinges (Haute-Savoie), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 10th century, 11th century, second quarter of the 19th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

On the hill known as the butte des châteaux at Allinges, the ruins of Allinges-Vieux stand at the eastern end of the ridge, some 150 metres from its neighbour Allinges-Neuf. The site retains the remains of a square keep dating from the 11th-12th century, 25 metres high, whose south wall still rises to its battlements, along with traces of a fortified town abandoned by the late Middle Ages. Walking trails from Allinges or the hamlet of Mâcheron lead to a viewpoint over Thonon-les-Bains and Lake Geneva.
